Shipments from South Korean chipmakers fell for the first time in three years in July, latest data showed, reflecting weakening market demand.

Semiconductor shipments rose 5.1 percent year-on-year in June, and July shipments fell 22.7 percent from a year earlier and 26.1 percent from June shipments, a three-year decline, according to a document released by the National Bureau of Statistics of Korea on Wednesday. First shipments fell. However, the national inventory of semiconductors continued to increase in July, and the growth rate was the same as the previous month, an increase of 80% over the same period last year.

Data show that since April, the growth rate of South Korean chip production has slowed down for four consecutive months, which indicates that major manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are adjusting production in response to cooling market demand and rising inventories.

Semiconductors are a key component of a global economy that is increasingly reliant on electronics and online services. During the Covid-19 pandemic, demand for semiconductors has surged as many people turn to telecommuting and online education. However, the current data point of view, the semiconductor market has turned weak.

It is worth mentioning that South Korea's technology exports in July fell for the first time in more than two years, with memory chip exports leading the decline. South Korea's overall exports rose 9.4% in July, although overseas sales of memory chips fell 13.5%.
